Start-up entrepreneurs from all over the world truly need to be aware of this: we’re experiencing a time with limitless possibilities. If you want to build your own business, there are more ways than ever!

Launching start-up with writing skills

We now have the internet, a place that allows us to carefully search and select the information that we need. If we get easy access to knowledge, it’s just a matter of time until we put it into action and try to start our own businesses.

A surprising statistic shows that every hour, 11.000 start-ups are launched worldwide. You see, not all of them succeed. In fact, according to Neil Patel, around 90% of them tend to fail, while the lucky 10% are thriving.

What Does a Successful Start-Up Require?

Start-ups are complicated. After all, we’re talking about entrepreneurship here – an activity that is always variable. After some assessments on the most successful start-ups from 2016, we came up with a list of 4 important traits that a start-up needs in order to succeed:

  • Passion
  • You can’t build a business if you’re not 100% involved. Many entrepreneurs that fail report that they never actually enjoyed what they were doing. They weren’t emotionally connected to their start-ups, so they had nothing special to offer.

  • Long-Term Strategy
  • Believe it or not, some entrepreneurs are starting their businesses without having a longer term strategy. Their actions and promotion strategies are aimed to create short-term results. Even if they get them, the company will slowly fade away because of the lack of long-term planning and strategizing.

  • A Good Team
  • Even if you start the business alone, at some point in time you’ll need to count on other people. Now, the investment that you make of those people is going to be directly proportional to your success. If you invest a few bucks for some crappy articles, you can expect the same crappy results when it comes to sales.

  • Lack of Innovation and Creativity
  • The most successful companies have out-of-the-box thinking. They come up with innovative ideas and solutions, and they truly capture the marketplace’s attention.

If you can’t think of something unique and original, you need to reconsider your vocation. Entrepreneurship is very much linked to innovation. If you want to thrive, stand out of the crowd immediately!

Writing Skills: The Key to a Successful Start-up Experience

Writing is the most essential and needed skill on the marketplace. Every business needs content in order to create value for their readers. Content is also used in order to pitch and market products and services.

Besides that, being a good writer will always save your skin in case you’re running out of budget, as you can write everything by yourself.

Steven Mars, Co-Founder of Australian Writings suggests:

“Some entrepreneurs (the ones who can write well) are not allowing anyone else to contribute to their start-up content strategy. They are the brains of the company, so it lays in their responsibility to communicate with their readers and possible customers.”

I definitely believe that this is the right approach. But in order to do that, you need to know how to write web and promotional content.

Let’s take a closer look at how writing skills can improve your start-up performance:

  1. Pitches
  2. When you’re new in the marketplace, you’ll often need to pitch other individuals with your proposals. It could be a similar niche blog who could promote your content, or it might be a possible customer. A pitch is a marketing material that leads your reader to a specific (and well-thought) conclusion. If you know how to convince other individuals to work with you, you’ll gain great benefits for your start-up.

  3. E-mails
  4. Do not forget about your customers. Okay, they might have bought something from you, and now they’re sitting on your e-mail list, waiting for new value. Knowing how to capture their attention through your e-mails takes some good writing skills.

If an e-mail contains valuewhich is packaged into a very attracting content structure and style, you’ll hit the jackpot. Otherwise, they’ll just ignore it because it’s too hard to read.

  5. Quality Content
  6. As previously mentioned, content marketing is all over the place. If you want to attract targeted traffic, the content that you distribute must be really aimed and crafted for a particular audience. With this practice, you’re improving your brand’s awareness and reach.

Content marketing can never work if you’re not bringing value to the table. People read blogs because they find interesting and valuable information which they can put into practice. Even if you’re starting a B2B business, content marketing can help you land plenty of clients!

  7. Marketing and Sales
  8. Copywriters are extremely expensive. If you didn’t know by now, professional copywriters work will never work for less than $0.5/word. That means that if you need a 2000 sales page for your product, you’ll be paying $1000. BUT, if you are able to leverage your writing skills, you’ll be able to create your own promotional material.

More than that, the copywriters that you’ll hire won’t be connected to your brand’s purpose and missing as much as you are. If you can write your own copy, you can include everything that’s necessary in order to make the marketing campaign better.

In other words, don’t let anyone else develop your marketing strategy, as they might miss some important aspects that wouldn’t be missed in case you were the one doing the job.

    Effective Communication and Engagement

Network, network, network. This is a great advice which comes from many successful entrepreneurs. The best way to improve your odds of launching a successful start-up is to find resources. In the majority of the cases, you’ll be looking for entrepreneurs or small business owners.

If you manage to build effective relationships and connections with other individuals, your start-up will develop with much more ease.

The second aspect is that you’ll be able to efficiently communicate and engage with your brand’s followers and fans. This helps a lot, as it’s the customers who are keeping your business alive.

Conclusion

Looking to do everything possible to succeed? Then don’t forget to focus on your writing skills. If you’re not capable of doing it, or if you’re too busy to do it, you need to make sure that you’re hiring the right person.

Don’t be afraid to invest money in a professional writer. He’s the one who’s going to create the bond between your brand and your customers.

Even though hiring a freelancer and be done with it sounds easier, I always suggest new start-up entrepreneurs develop and perfect their writing skills. Why? Because this investment can never go wrong!
